Haldex Oil Service

If your VAG Group vehicle has four-wheel drive then it is most likely that the rear wheels are driven through a haldex system. The Haldex system is a coupling that operates alongside your rear differential to automatically distribute power to the wheels as needed to maintain traction.

Regardless of model, your vehicle will require regular haldex oil and filter changes just like your engine does. As a general rule, your haldex oil should be replaced every 20,000 miles and the filter, if you have one, replaced every 40,000 miles.

The Haldex pump pre-charges the oil inside the Haldex assembly to allow the coupling to engage faster. This part is prone to failure on higher mileage cars or if regular maintenance is not actioned. Dirty oil can overheat the coupling or cause the clutch or haldex pump to burn out meaning you may experience loss of engine power to your rear wheels due to the pump becoming contaminated with old fluid and no longer activating.
